Overall a poor undercard IMO. Most of those fights were not exciting except for the Alessio/Sanchez match mainly because we got to see something new.

Staying with Alessio/Sanchez, I just can't understand why Sanchez won the match.
1. He never landed a punch or kick of any significance.
2. He never took Sanchez to the ground. He probably missed 15+ times.
3. Although he was in good position at the end of the fight he still never put Alessio in a submission or put him on the mat.
I think UFC needs to take a serious look at how they are scoring fights because this one was bullshit. Alessio won round won and should have won round 2 with the amount of solid punches he hit Sanchez with. Hearing the fans boo when Rogan interviewed Sanchez was classic. Rogan looked like an ass for taking up for Sanchez.

2 of the 3 preliminary fights that were not shown live but at the end of the match were the most exciting fights of the night. Seeing that dude nail the flying knee was one of the coolest knockouts I've ever seen in the UFC.

Gracie/Hughes - I was on the edge of my seat for the whole fight. I was surprised to see Gracie come out with a little standup. The mind games going on when Gracie was kicking Hughes' legs was pretty intense. Things accidentally played into Gracie's hands when the fight went to the edge of the cage. Gracie was able to begin to use leverage and Hughes abliged. Hughes got the upper position of half guard to begin things. Very few fighters would ever get out of that position with Hughes on top without getting rocked. Gracie took a gamble and went with Hughes on his back and then spun out momentarily. Hughes then immediately locked in an arm bar and 99% of guys would tap out but Gracie did not. I think Gracie got his arm broke on that one. He was finished at that point I think. Hughes got on top of his back again and pounded away. Gracie had nowhere to go. McCarthy called it and Hughes won by TKO. Gracie was cool after and said he wants to be back in the UFC and has some fights left in him. A fun fight for the super fan but I would imagine the casual fans didn't enjoy it.

In the crowd for the evening: The Rock, Paris Hilton, David Spade, Nicolous Cage, James Caan, and one of the Wayans brothers. I can't imagine Vince McMahon will be too thrilled to hear that the Rock was there supporting UFC.

Now I am trying to figure out if I take the bait again and buy the July Shamrock/Ortiz 2 PPV. The Heavyweight title fight will be worth watching as well.

Hey E, please provide a link to a "reputable" new source that lists these results. I won't resolve the bets until I see one. TIA.

This is a reputable news source. The names of the guys are highlighted and that should help you find the result.

Wait - that only Kraziness didn't get completely :pwn3d: on UFC. He at least won enough to almost offset his losses (he lost a buck total). The rest of yous lost $1650 without a single bet won (not counting what you spend on the PPV).

How did I lose a dollar on this one? I thought I bet 300 on Huges and 100 each on Riggs and Sanchez... am I wrong?

Emoney: I'm surprised that you saw Gracie/Hughes the way you did. I saw it as complete domination by Huges. Gracie used some low kicks, almost all of which were checked by Hughes, very little to no damage... now, I'm going off my sleep deprived memory here, but I remember commenting to someone (after the fight) that it seemed like standup was a draw, Hughes took him down, into half guard, passed the guard into side control, tried a submission (I agree that a lot of damage was done there, possibly a broken arm), moved from the submission, took his back, rained down some blows, fight was over. At no point did I think that Hughes was in danger, at no point did I think that Gracie did anything of significance. Considering the legend of Gracie, and how many people here thought that he would win, I don't take into account ANY "moral" victories like not tapping out in the arm bar, or like using the cage to his advantage, etc.

I didn't get to see most of the undercard fights, hopefully I'll catch an encore, I did catch the post fights though, which (I agree) were pretty awesome.

Also, I'm crazy impressed with Dean Lister (Tito's BJJ guy), for now I'm going to put him up with Jeff Monson as two of my favorites.

Lastly, I have very little interest in seeing the next PPV (of course, when announced, I had little interest in seeing this one too). The Silvia fight interests me a bit, but I really don't care much about the other guys. If you ask me, UFC is getting a little too "WWE" on me- too many PPV's (and with not enough substance). When does Liddel fight again? Rich Franklin? Where's Frank Mir?

I can't believe how good Mike Swick has looked in all of his UFC fights. Riggs was going to fight Hughes for the title @ 170 a couple of months ago, but didn't make weight . . . so he's obviously beaten many opponents in the UFC. Riggs is a well-rounded fighter and one strong son of a bitch, and Swick made him look like a rookie with a high kick to the head and the "Swickoutine."

I agree that I thought the Sanchez fight was scored very poorly. I saw no damage to Alessio and I have never seen Diego not be able to take down an opponent in the cage yet. That he won a "unanimous" decision seems pathetic to me. Such variance in the scoring between the judges, too. One scored it 30-27, which means they didn't give at least the first round to Alessio . . . what a joke.

Also impressed with Lister, with all the hype that was surrounding the other guy's striking.

Hughes was just fucking impressive. I didn't think he would want to take the fight to the ground, but he controlled the shit out of Gracie when he was there. Right now, I think George St. Pierre has to be the next title fight agains Hughes, and I think he's being robbed by not getting a shot. To me, St. Pierre is the only guy that can give Hughes a run right now. I want to see that fight.

All in all, it wasn't a terrible UFC . . . but I wish there had been another big match to offset the fact that the Gracie/Hughes fight just did not live up to the hype.

I believe that St.P is for sure the #1 contender, and has the contractual right to the next title fight at that weight. He was the #1 contendar, but they threw BJ Penn at him as a last second challenge before he could fight Hughes. Gracie wasn't a title fight. I'm a Hughes fan because of his wrestling background, but St.P is REALLY impressive and I'm not so sure that Hughes can beat him again.

Not sure if this is reputable or not... but it's the results (in story form  )

Just quoting the PM reply you just got ... :D

How did I lose a dollar? I thought I bet $300 on Huges (winner), $100 on Sanchez (winner) and $100 on Riggs (loser)... Did I mess somefing up?

You got $400 of the $500 wagered back (lost $100) by not losing two of the three bets. But the rewards for winning the two bets - due to both being heavy favorites, was only $99. I think it was $83 won on the $300 bet and $16 won on the $100 bet. So the $99 won and the $100 lost result in you losing $1.

I'm guessing that the maths ain't your strong suit, eh? :weary: Luckily, they are mine. :hyper:
