I had read on the ND site that he was expected to go top 20. With him going at 149 overall, he's not expected to sign is he? Even if he had gone relatively high, would he have thought about going MLB?

Also as an aside, Zack Grienke, Jeremy Hermida, and Jeff Franceour would be seniors on the #1 seeded Clemson Tigers right now if they had stayed with their commit.
Omaha would've been ours for sure!! (I'm still hopeful the seeds play out and we're National Champs)

Supposedly, a deal was in place before the draft, and he will play football. Before the draft yesterday, someone over at the ND board reported that Samardzija would be taken by the Cubs in the 5th round.

Out of curiosity, what's his favorite? Would he rather go to the Cubs farm system or be drafted in the mid-late first in the NFL draft next year?

He hasn't publicly commented one way or another -- says he likes both for different reasons. At the ND boards, someone claiming to be a student and an acquaintance of Shark said that his true love is baseball, but he gets more of a rush playing football.
I have a feeling that the two-sport guys at ND are pretty well-schooled not to comment. I saw an interview with Zbikowski where he was asked about boxing v. football, and he said almost the exact same comments that Samardzija had made re baseball v. football.

Maybe he would have gone higher if he hand't balked in a run the other day in a one run loss to Texas(?).
Also, if he's got a big league arm he'd be crazy not to play baseball.
More $$$ + longer career =

Mongo, what are your thoughts on the Clemson OF the Cubs drafted in the first round (Tyler Colvin)? Sounds like he was a real big reach. I haven't heard too many great things about him.

He's a good player, but I was suprised he went that high. If I'm not mistaken, he was the #3 non-pitcher taken in the draft. He didn't even think he was going that early...
“It’s a good feeling, I guess,” he said. “It’s a bit overwhelming to think I’m a first-rounder.”
Colvin said he believed he was going to go somewhere between late in the first round and the early part of the second round. However, going this high didn’t cross his mind.
“I knew there was a chance I’d be late, but not in the middle (of the first round),” he said.

In any case, he's a solid player. Not a whole lot of power, but he's a solid hitter with good speed. He's a solid guy in the field as well.

You don't need a whole lot of power in Wrigley.
