Playing golf in the morning... should be back sometime around 3 or so. Don't wait, just pick. I'll send a very small list to O that he can pick from.

fricker66

Fock you, O. I figured everyone would forget about "The Soldier", so I was trying to let him drop to the 10th. I think he's got top 5 potential at TE.

Sooo, you okay with SD's WR1 and a hall of fame QB?

I like the Favre pick, but I'll pass on McCardell if it's ok... I've got 2 safe WR picks already, like to take a flyer on Moulds... can you make the change O?

TIA

JScott

I liked the McCardell pick better.

Not with Rivers at QB. Don't get me wrong McCardell will get steady numbers but he'll never explode in a game that's LT2 and Gates' job(s). And I've already got "steady" in S.Smith and H.Ward... I wanted a risk/reward pick for WR3 and I have a gut feeling (mostly from what I've read so far out of HOU camp) that Moulds is going to end up being the #1 target in HOU... and we all know they'll have to throw the ball.

Me too. Guess I have faith in Rivers. :dunno:

Ok, assume Rivers plays as well as Brees did, Gates will still be the #1 target, McCardell #2. McCardell will not explode for big games anymore (4-70) will be standard. And that's ok for steady production, but I'm thinking with Moulds on a new he'll bounce back to old form (at least for this season).

Jay
06-23-2006, 11:51 AM
I just don't see it with Moulds. New team, new offense, expectations to throw more to the TE. On top of that, there is already an established #1. Are there really enough balls on a bad team for Johnson, Moulds, DD, and more throws to the TE?

WOW! I see Volek as virtually undraftable this year. With VY cutting in on his goalline looks and likely eventually taking over if the season gets out of hand for Tennessee, I'm really down on Volek this year.

Holy crap! I thought R.White was a bad pick (about 3 rounds too early) but Volek :headscratch:

I do agree with this (even though he's Vick's second option behind Alge).

Just comparing it to his ADP, the highest he's gone is 12.01 :dunno:

Just comparing it to his ADP, the highest he's gone is 12.01 :dunno:

Yeh, I'm aware of that. The problem with ADP is the amount of risk that people are willing to absorb in a mock is much higher than in a draft that results in a team. Granted, we're in a mock, but the intention to make this a no-hassle league makes it much more real.

I find ADP to be a self-fulfilling prophesy as well. People look at where people are being drafted and then they draft according to that. Well, what's the point in that. Not only does it not give you an original draft, but it continues to skew the ADP for the next group of people. To me, that's how you get guys like Addai and Bell going consistently as high as they are. Herd mentality.

That said, I try to use it as a loose guage on where other people will draft, but it hasn't worked that way in this draft. Kudos to this group.

I feel pretty good about Roddy White and Meshawn as my reserves. I think Johnson's possession receiver abilities complement the explosive Smith very well. I also think Roddy is in for a nice year and will be the lead WR receiver in Atlanta.

I like White... quite a bit more than Jenkins actually. I think White could be a real gamebreaker; his speed is top notch.

From a falcons point of view, I'm hoping he can spread the field allowing for Alge and Jenkins underneath. White should get Vick his first really legit deep threat this season. He's always just had tall possession guys with Jenkins, Finneran, and Alge. I think Roddy getting behind defenses will open things up even more for the underneath game.

You can argue quality, but Price was supposed to be that deep threat. If White can be the player that Price was supposed to be, I agree that Atlanta makes out well. I see Roddy as a pretty complete player. I think he runs routes well enough to do a number of different things for Atlanta. If he develops properly, he can be a Rod Smith type receiver.

Same way I felt about Billy Volek. Nobody gives him any chance of succeeding, yet he has a history of productivity in McNair's absences. I don't think Vince "Mr. Wonderlic" Young is ready yet, so Volek is worth a gamble.

My least favorite part of the draft is "handcuffing" or drafting second-stringers whose superior is on another fantasy owners' roster. The way I look at it, I'd rather have a starter from another team, if possible, who I can plug in than bring in a stiff second stringer. This is particularly true at QB, but holds true for most RBs as well. There are exceptions, of course (e.g. Dominic Rhodes a few years ago), but for the most part, you aren't going to win a fantasy season with the Vernon Morencys of the league.

 Will Morency get starter touches if he replaces Davis? Nope, the offense would be altered significantly and he might barely get half of the Davis touches. Morency has never gotten much playing time, so the playbook would have to get slashed. Better to have a guy who can get all the plays called if he's in there and who'll be able to get playing time even without injury - like if the starter's not playing hard or well (Mike Anderson type guys).

RB1 ~ L. Tomlinson > C. Williams
RB2 ~ J. Jones > T. Bell
RB3 ~ C. Benson = A. Green (you got me here...good one JScott)
RB4 ~ M. Turner
WR1 ~ M. Harrison = S. Smith (was shut down...I like Marvin better)
WR2 ~ A. Johnson < H. Ward (he's better)
WR3 ~ M. Clayton > Moulds (returns to form....healthy)
WR4 ~ D. Stallworth > B. Edwards (will actually be playing in Sept.)
WR5 ~ A. Randle El > B. Edwards (see above)
TE1 ~ LJ Smith < Cooley (Lydell would argue this)
DS1 ~ Jacksonville

You got that right.

Winslow is unproven but has the upside, that's why he's my backup and not my starter.

Joe J will rock this year. Great size and hands, back home in Cleveland, no real competition at WR. Also, he's good for a young quarterback as Charlie only has to get the ball high enough for only Joe to come down with it. And at the time, you only had 3 receivers and one of those was a Jet.

I think Brunell would be a good QB2, so I'm happy with him as my 3rd QB.

I don't expect Jackson to start at the WR2 spot for NE but he got great reviews from camp about his hands, catches everything even close to him, so after about a month I think he'll take over for Reche and end up with Givens type numbers (for a 12 game period).

Not crazy about Stover or Seattle, but not too bad either.

I like my roster overall (as I'm sure we all do of our own rosters).

Once this is done, I'll take some time to import the rosters into a host site for the "FIA No Hassle" league. I know someone asked that it not be on Yahoo because of account overload so I'll go with something else.

I'll post again when it's all set up.

I waffled between Betts and Jacobs when I made my last running back pick. I like both, and I took Jacobs because I figure that he'll get goalline looks, regardless of anything else. I don't see that as being true with Betts.

I've heard good things out of both camps about each player.

I liked the Seattle and Stover picks. They were the best respective defense and kicker on the board, in my opinion.

P.S. I may or may not be around for my next pick. In the interest of finishing, if I am missing for more than 1/2 hour, I hereby authorize anyone to pick a defense for me so long as they do not have the same bye week as the Redskins. TIA.

2. We might have something other than Yahoo at our disposal. It's pretty new, but I think we're going to try it once it gets set up for this year. It would be part of FAI, so there would be no hassle.

Its rare for the season to play out like FFers given projections for that year. You have as much as cleaning up thanks to your quarterbacks as a strong looking team diving after a couple key injuries.
:dunno:

Jay
06-30-2006, 02:21 PM
Injuries are the big wild card. You can build depth, but there is no replacing a top-tier injury. That's one of the big reasons why I usually draft three solid quarterbacks and a lot of depth at RB.

Ownership won't matter. I'm just going to plug in the rosters, it will be best-ball scoring each week (i.e. no "starting" lineups each week). The system will automatically calculate and then use the high scores for your weekly total per position, so your top scoring QB, top 2 scoring RBs, and so on. No managing necessary.
