In keeping with the movie topic:
Top 5 Animated Movies
5. Toy Story. First feature length, fully CGI movie. An instant classic with funny characters and an intriguing story. I've probably seen this movie 87 times and am still waiting for it to get old.
4. Shrek. In it's time, the most technically ambitious animated movie in history. Highly original, enjoyable soundtrack and lots of hidden fun stuff you can only unveil after several viewings (where's Momma Bear?!?).
3. The Incredibles. I saw this in the theater and was completely blown away. I love how Brad Bird incorporated real life adult situations in with Superheroes v. Villains. The story isn't in any way campy, and appeals to everyone. Top notch.
2. The Prince of Egypt. A lot of people I talk to who enjoy animated movies have never heard of this movie, and that's a shame. But it's probably due to the fact that it was released without "single toy or merchandising tie-in" (a fact I didn't know until I read it on Amazon just now), which gives it even more creditability in my eyes. Yeah, it's a musical, but it's a good musical. Trust me, I've always viewed music in animated films as a schleppy diversion from the story. Not so in POE. The music in POE actually enhances the story, and is actually good. In fact, I'd say you have to watch this at a high volume, just to enjoy the music even more.
POE is Dreamworks' debut animated film, and is Jeffery Katzenberg's giant middle finger, waggled at Disney. While Disney was pulling out the defibrillator and applying it to Cinderella's corpse, Dreamworks chose to tackle one of the most important stories in the history of mankind - the Exodus story. They didn't dodge or gloss over difficult subject matters like the burning bush, the parting of the Red Sea, or the plagues either, they embraced them and presented them with fine detail, so that you can't imagine it happening in any other way (if you believe that it actually happened). If you haven't seen this movie, buy it. Don't just rent it. Buy it. You'll watch it over and over.
1. Iron Giant. Absolutely outstanding in every way. Great story, great characters, great production. Brad Bird's second nomination. Perfectly combines classic animation with CGI for an ultra smooth look and feel. I can't describe accurately enough how much I love this movie.

Heavy Metal: Back when you were playing Zork on your TRaSh-80 and super computers where the size of Hummers, a couple of fucked up people used pencils to craft this masterpiece, put to life with a kick ass soundtrack.
Also Shrek.

Never saw it! I heard it was pretty revolutionary, though.
Also I forgot to add my honorable mentions, which would be:
Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Fantasia, Lion King, Shrek 2.

Nice call on The Iron Giant TK. A guy I went to high-school with was an animator on that movie so it has always gotten some extra points from me.

Also, do you know what specifically he worked on? Or was it something obscure like "I was in charge of Hogarth's right arm in the power plant scene?"
Either way, that's pretty damn cool.

Yeah but the definition of super computer has changed. A super computer in 1981 in terms of MIPS would be the size of a laptop today, I'm thinking, but whatever. :dumbjim:

Of all the films mentioned here, I have seen two; Toy Story and Finding Nemo. I have no clue what any of the others are about.
Also, the best kids movie of all time, animated or not, is "Time Bandits". Any arguments to the contrary will be summarily pooped upon.

The problem is that VCR's aren't used for creating animation, that was the reference I was going for which failed miserably, which leads to the conclusion that I suck more than kraziness.:screams:
