View Full Version : What Brand of Gasoline do you use?

Gutter

I've been pretty much buying Gulf gas exclusively the past year, due to station location convenience and being a bit cheaper and whatnot. Then I'm thinking that maybe I should mix it up, buy from a station that advertises cleaner fuel instead, like Shell does. I was looking for a website that rates the different brands for efficiciency, burning effectiveness, but nothing.

Thoughts?

Don't all "brands" of gas come from the same locations anyway?

I go to the the cheapest place I can find which here is often spaceage.

I'm trying to kill my car, so I've been putting all kinds of shit in there. I accidently filled up with the gas for the hybrids the other day. Nothing bad happened. :|

Same gas, different additives, so Exxon will add their shit, Hess adds theirs, some add ethanol, some add sewage, etc.

Well, I probably am boring, considering I'm not an alcoholic, no marriage issues, and little to no OCD habits.

Sure am glad I don't suck at life :jig:

Also!# I used to go out of my way to get the cheapest gas, even for a couple cents, but now that it's so expensive, I just go wherever it's convenient (often a Sunoco station)... but I try to get Shell whenever I see that their prices are competitive. HTHOKBYE! :hyper:

Stations don't necessarily buy the "brand" gas for their stations, is what I recall. They'll mix and match. The whole gas additive thing is a scam--they do what they have to, to sell under your state's laws, but otherwise it's all just gas.

What the heck is gas for the hybrids? Hybrids run on regular gas.

It was some kind of lower octane gas. There was a warning sign on the pump that you shouldn't use it in regular cars, but I didn't see it. :dopey:

So an Exxon station will buy Shell gas?

Maybe you should move to NJ or Oregon. Clearly pumping your own gas is not a task you are cut out for.

not that they don't add additives; that the additives do something truly useful for your car.

And yes, it's my understanding that franchisees will buy whatever gas they can get cheaply. I'll try to follow up on that, but of course it's not something they really want you to know.

Stations don't necessarily buy the "brand" gas for their stations, is what I recall.
Most branded stations are contractually obligated to sell that brand's fuel through their pumps and the oil companies do put tracers in the fuel so they can audit what is in a station's tanks. They take a VERY dim view of branded stations selling off-brand fuel.

Which is why those periodic calls for gas boycotts for X gas company are so funny.

which says to me they used to do it a lot more...maybe my info is just out of date.

normally diesel pumps are larger than normal pumps so they won't fit into a regular gas tank...this keeps the Nevada asshats from doing the unthinkable.

1. You can use "red diesel" (used for farm equipment) in a diesel car, it's way cheaper, the same stuff... but illegal (from what I've heard.

2. Willie Nelson is involved in some alternative gas company, that apparently already works... but for some reason it hasn't caught on. "Biodiesel" (http://www.wnbiodiesel.com/products.html)

A fair number of folks use it out here. You can almost literally gas up at a McDonald's. :hyper:
