It's been like it is now for a long time, but what about changing it to something that makes more sense? Sacks = turnovers? The yardage credits for touchdowns are huge. I'd like to discuss an overhaul of the defensive scoring to make it better. Give us your thoughts.

I'd like to see turnovers be worth two points. That's about the only thing that I have a beef with. I like the yardage bonuses for TDs. I think they accurately represent the impact of a D/ST touchdown.

The yardage bonus on kick returns has been discussed before but never resolved. Personally, I hate it. I think it is too much. A TD is already worth 6, why does it need a bonus multiplier of 1 to 1.5? Since INT or fumble TD's don't get the bonus, I'd argue that KR & Punt return TD's are more fluke than Def TD's.

Using my loss this week as an example (I do not intend to sound like sour grapes, I accept the rules as they were at the time) but there is no way 2 sacks, 1 INT and 2 KR TD's should equal 48 points. :no: 48 points represents half the points of a good weekly score. It is also equivalent to a RB rushing for 200 yards and 5 TD's or a WR having 100 yards and 6 TD's or a QB throwing for 660 yards and 5TD's. No way a kick return should be that big an impact.

As for the rest of the scoring, something along the lines of"
1 point: Sack
2 points: INT & Fumble recovery (maybe 3 points), Safety,
3 points: Blocked FG or Punt
5 points: Defense allows 2-10 points
6 points: D/ST TD (INT, fum, KR, PR or fake FD or Punt)
10 points: Def Shutout

Def Scoring should be as follows

Int=2 points
Fum Rec= 2 points
Sac= 2 Points
Def TD (to Include Punts and KR)= 6 points
Saftey= 6 points

Question, in NFL stats, does a safety count as a sack? If so, would a safety actually be worth 8 points in your scoring?

Thanks.

If it was the QB then yes, much as a sac that causes a fumble that is returned for a td is worth 10.

Now if its a RB/WR/TE, then, No

I'm fine with that. I do like to boost the Safety reward a little (to 4pts) since it's two points for the scoreboard plus two points for the "turnover" (since the team that just got the safety gets the ball next too - kinda like a long interception rather than the subsequent kickoff). Also, Blocked XP should get the same reward as any other blocked kick. And maybe tweak the points scored against a little (less difference between 10 & 11 or whatever the break, more difference between shutout & not):

1 point: Sack
2 points: INT & Fumble recovery, Defense allows 7-13 points
3 points: Blocked XP or FG or Punt
4 points: Safety, Defense allows 2-6 points
6 points: D/ST TD (INT, fum, KR, PR, fake FG, fake Punt)
10 points: Def Shutout

I agree that whoisjgalt's proposition is solid. Should we put it to a vote?

Also I think the only way you should get yardage points on kickoff/punt returns is if you have that particular player on your starting roster, but thats just me.
