Forgot to post this earlier.
I have a Dell with XP Pro. I'm having all kinds of problems getting it up and running to the point where I can't even copy my data files. The last time I backed it up was about 3 months ago, and I will lose some photos and other work if I can't get that back. The computer won't even let me do a system restore. I can do Dell Diagnostics and that's about it. It seems that Windows may be corrupted. Any ideas?

Based on your history with technical issues here at FAI, I wonder if you even have your computer turned on. You might want to give that a try and then get back to us. :dunno:

Hard drive failure.
Take the drive out, set it up as a slave drive (as opposed to master) and put it in another system (as a second hard drive).
This may allow you to copy files off of it even though the OS is so focked you can't boot it.

Why did it not give me any error messages when I ran Dell Diagnostics on the hard drive? It passed every test.

I can't even say for sure that's it's a hard drive failure, but if it's POSSIBLE that it's a hard drive failure you need to try to copy your files off tout de suite.

Yep. I tried to copy things last night...thought I had them, looked like it had copied, but I can't read it on my work machine. It must not have formatted correctly.:wigglypea:
get yourself a new computer and do yourself a favor and don't get a dell this time!@@!#
