Last night's episode was the first complete one I've seen all year!

So I guess I don't get why Sayid asked Charlie at the end there "Have you forgotten?" Is that eluding to the fact he knows Charlie helped Sawyer be a total gun-stealing jerkwad? :dunno:

Also, that guy in the vault is so one of them it's not even funny! :wigglypea:

Also, notice the picture of the soldier's wife? Aaaah? Little Kate spice?

Also, I guess they've totally abandoned the sleestack/T-Rex spice we were promised in the first season? Like what threw the pilot up in the tree? HUH??!@?#

I did not ascribe any meaning to the "Have you forgotten" line other than asking Charlie if he's forgotten how dangerous "the others" can be.

Really? Maybe I read too much into it then. Just the way Sayid held his look for an uncomfortably long amount of time got me to thinking there was something else to it.

The last two episodes + the episode detailing the background of the Nigerian priest have been very good. All really kept my interest, which I can't say was the case for the first few shows of this season. I'm worried that they have too many mysteries going on simultaneously. I liked the fact that they revealed a little bit about the "button" last night.

I want to know why Echo "marked the trees he liked". Also, there are so many characters on the show with the addition of the tailies that there is not enough camera time for everyone. I am still looking forward to some additional torture by Sayid. I loved last night when he said to the baloonist, "My name is Sayid Fallah...and I am a torturer."

I watch it, but am growing really tired of them not addressing ANY current mysteries and just adding more and more in.

I assumed "have you forgotten" was a referrence to "The Others" too, not anything in particular, but then again I don't do a whole lot of thinking about the show and all the backround stuff going on.

They definitely want us to think that that guy is an Other, almost makes me think he's not.

WHAT HAPPENED TO DESMOND?!

WHAT IN THE HECK IS THE DEAL WITH THE NUMBERS?! WHY ARE THEY BAD LUCK? WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T PRESS THEM? HOW DID HURLY'S CRAZY FRIEND GET THEM?

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE BLACK SMOKE!? AND THE HORSE, POLAR BEAR, ETC.?!

I guess I'll be happy though, we know what's in the hatch, why Hurley's still fat, how the Mary's got there, and what the Other's look like/who they are (just not how they got there and why they're jerks/killing people).

Hurley's crazy friend heard them being transmitted from the island when stationed at a naval base. That is also how Rousseau's team found the island, and then she changed the transmission from the numbers to her distress call.

The Horse and Polar Bear are likely explained by the video and the Dharma initiative. One of the six stations was said to be a zoological studies stations. Also, the Shark that attacked Michael and Sawyer had a Dharma logo on it.

I find Eko's character to be a bit too much like Locke from early in season 1.

I wonder if they will ultimately have the two of them become mortal enemies. Then, they could have Sayid come in and torture each other. Then, Sawyer could come in a make a smarmy comment. Then, Jack could arrive and be righteous. Then Kate could have sex with both of them.

That's good TV.

I didn't stick around for the replay of the second episode, but I thought the polar bear was explained by the Dharma thingie. BUT NOT THE FREAKING T-REX!!!@#

Also, when Locke first said that, I realized the writers were trying to present the black/white conversation with Walt as a race thing, with a veiled message underneath. As to what that veiled message was, I still don't know. I think they were just trying to create a mysticism around Locke.

It's explained by the fact that we saw a shark and a horse too... BUT WHY ARE WE SEEING THESE FREAKING THINGS?! And the T-Rex and the black smoke?!

I didn't really see it as a race thing at all, I can't remember if I read into this or if he said it but it seemed like he said that EVERYTHING boils down to darkness and light (he VERY clearly did NOT say black/white). I saw it as a good/evil thing... and incidentally I didn't see it as coincidental that out of all the episodes they would show us those (almost like, don't forget about this and that) and that Matt Fox was on the Daily Show. I mean, obviously it's publicity, trying to get more people hooked in, but I always feel like they're trying to give extremely veiled hints at every turn, so they carefully choose which episodes to replay and when.

I thought Locke let into that conversation by talking about the black and white pieces on the backgammon set? :detective:

We've been through this already. When they watched the video it talked about SIX stations. One was weather, one was zooligy, electromagnetic research, one telekintics or some shit and the others I can't remember right now. The point is though that the ZOOLIGY FOCKING STATION HELPS EXPLAIN THE ANIMALS!!!!! You don't normally see Lions in the focking bronx do you? Well if the zoo was abandoned and they broke out you might!

Also the weather station might help explain the crazy rain and stuff.

The Black smoke and the T-Rex 'security system appear to be one and the same. It appears and disappears all the time. Locke saw it, it killed the pilot apparently, it confronted Eko, almost pulled Locke down a hole, chased Kate and Jack, and charlie, and the entire team that went to the black rock, which is when Frenchie called it a security system.

I think that is the thing that turns me off the most about the show, When I saw the black smoke I thought

It is a tip that pretend you know what you are talking about and most people will believe. They're all sheep! :hyper:

;)

There are obviously still questions, but my point was that there seems to be logical explanations for the animals being there. Why they appear to host the kindred spirits of people the castaways have killed and whether Walt manifested the Polar Bear the same way he appeared to have manifested the rare bird in Austrailia when his step dad decided to :run: ? :dunno:

It is another tip that i'm not the writer! :D

Though I actually do have a guy who does security work for me that claims to have gone to HS with Damon Lindelof, co-creator of LOST. Apparently they used to be pretty close according to him. I thought he was full of it describing how close until I watched one episode where Jack's best man was named Marc Silverman, the name of the guy who does network security work for me! I keep asking him for spoilers, insider info and stuff and he just laughs. He did tell me that Damon reads the ABC boards and purposely tries to fock with those crazy wacko fans over there, both online and with little things in the show (probably like Hurley's 'From when" comment)

actually, last night was an excellent episode. answered a lot of things.

It did answer some things, but not really the stuff I care about. I guess each step is a step in the right direction, I just don't see where they're going right now and it's really frustrating for me. I don't care about all the soap opera stuff. What got me watching was the mystery surrounding the numbers and the others. We're learning more about the others, which is nice, but it's at the cost of the characters (and plotlines) that actually peaked my interest.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!

It was a good episode I thought. You find out what happened to Claire while she was gone, what they were doing to her and planning to do to her. You see the old man in the sea 'other' guy that Sawyer called Zeke without his beard and later they imply that it is a fake beard. You see Danielle's daughter Alex all grown up and find out that she was the one who freed Claire. They portray Ethan as the 'fuck up other' Who doesn't follow directions. Aparently he was supposed to make a list like they did for the tailies but he jumped the gun and kidnapped Claire on his own. A very weird scene with Eko and the prisoner Henry where Eko apologizes to him for killing the two 'others' the first night on the island. It was almost like he knew he was an other, and wanted to apologize to him so the others would forgive him. I didn't understand that scene at all.

kraziness should stick to the George Lopez show or something where every plot line is tied up by the end of the show.

I'm beginning to cool down a bit :D

It's not that the show/episode was that bad, it really wasn't (plot wise)... it's just that I got really bothered by some bad acting and a new plot line that (if it's what they were hinting at- the Locke jealousy thing) is really dumb. I had been frustrated about the pace for a while and the other issues really just got piled on.

If I didn't like the show and the idea so much it wouldn't bug me when parts of it suck.

Season finale tonight!!!

MSNBC's Best and Worst of Lost:

CHARACTERS

BEST MAIN CHARACTER

Eko. Before he arrived, it was definitely Locke, who had an air of mystery, an unexplained past, and a weird fascination with the Swan station hatch. Eko has an even more giant air of mystery.

WORST MAIN CHARACTER

Kate. Charlie was a contender, but he's at least supposed to be dopey. Kate is supposed to be a criminal, a killer, a con woman, and yet she's horribly boring and fills all the worst female stereotypes, including sneaking after the boys and getting herself caught. Why couldn't she have been in the hatch when Michael opened fire instead of Ana-Lucia and Libby?

CHARACTER WHO NEEDS MORE SCENES

Sayid. Oh where have you gone, Iraqi torturer and all-around badass? Aren't there some spies you can tie up or some radios you can fix?

CHARACTER WHO NEEDS FEWER SCENES

Jack. Yes, he's the hero. But does he have to be so good and predictable and dull about it? Re-imagine this show if Eko (or Sayid, or Locke) were in as many scenes as Jack. A lot more would be going on, that's for sure.

BEST CHARACTER TURNAROUND

Michael goes bad and shoots Ana-Lucia and Libby, and lets Henry free. Sure, he was acting odd after returning from The Others' camp, but we never saw this coming, and it suddenly made the show's future feel freshened.

WORST CHARACTER TURNAROUND

Charlie. He doesn't understand why he's having visions and spooky dreams and waking up knee-deep in the sea holding Claire's baby. Neither do we, but the difference is, we don't care.

BEST DEATH

Ana-Lucia. Her murder came out of nowhere and completely woke up a sleeping audience.

WORST DEATH

Shannon. Who? If everyone's forgotten you this quickly, you must have made one heck of an impression.

BEST ANIMAL CHARACTER

Vincent. How about, as some Internet wits have suggested, a flashback episode from Vincent's point of view? We could watch him sniffing around the humans and, through his innocent eyes, see what the others (and the Others) do when no one but a dog is watching them.

WORST ANIMAL CHARACTER

We're done with the polar bear now, right? Good.

EVENTS

BEST FLASHBACK

Without question, this goes to Eko's first flashback, in which, as a child in Nigeria, he's forced to murder a man and then kidnapped and forced into a life of war. Parts of Eko's flashback are brutal and hard to watch, but learning about the horrors of his life help explain both his steely strength and his devotion to his dead brother, a priest.

WORST FLASHBACK

We get it. Charlie is a rocker, and a drug addict. Now, did we really need to see him and the rest of Driveshaft standing in a giant crib wearing diapers, filming a nappies commercial? We're laughing at you, not with you.

BEST CLUE

The discovery of The Pearl, a surveillance station where people apparently had to spy on those in The Swan and fill notebooks full of their observations. And you thought your job was boring.

WORST CLUE

So Claire was kept in a hidden Dharma medical facility by creepy Ethan, and given some kind of shot in her pregnant belly? With a mobile full of little planes? Eh, well, she doesn't seem to concerned about it, so why should we?

CLUE THAT THE WRITERS WILL NEVER RESOLVE

The numbers. 8 15 16...hike! Oh, you know the drill. The numbers started out as one of the more fascinating of the mysterious "Lost" elements, but that was before they started showing up everywhere, from Hurley's winning lottery ticket to the hatch itself. The writers are pretty much just throwing them in wherever they get bored now.

CLUE THAT THE WRITERS HAD DAMN WELL BETTER RESOLVE

The cool magnetic pull that was yanking Eko's cross forward. We know the Dharmites have researched magnetic issues. Have they somehow figured out how to interfere with the compasses on various crafts, thus sucking planes, boats, and even hot-air balloons into the island? Now there's a juicy plot we can sink our teeth into.

BEST UNEXPLAINED FLASHBACK EVENT

How did Locke get paralyzed, dammit? Explain, already! We bet it somehow involves that rotten dad of his.
WORST UNEXPLAINED FLASHBACK EVENT
Why did Jack's marriage break up? Was his father a factor? Was Desmond? Does anyone care?

EVERYTHING ELSE

BEST SAWYER NICKNAME

"Jabba," for Hurley. It's cruel, but now we're picturing Sawyer in Princess Leia's little gold slave-girl bikini.

WORST SAWYER NICKNAME

"Freckles," for Kate. That's a dog's name.

BEST LINE

"We're gonna have to watch that again," as spoken by Locke, after watching the first Dhama initiation film. So good a line, it reverberated later in the season, when Locke and Eko found a film in The Pearl station. "Are you going to want to watch that again?" asked Eko.

WORST LINE

"I'm sorry I forgot the blankets!" Hurley usually has one gem of a line every episode, but draped over a dying Libby, he referred back to the picnic they never had with an apology that was meant to be poignant, but just came off as weird.

BEST THEORY ABOUT THE SHOW

One reader suggested to us that the main characters represent the seven deadly sins. Disregarding the fact that there are more than seven characters, we love this idea, especially the matching up of the sins. Let's see, Hurley is gluttony, Sawyer is lust, Charlie is sloth...or is Sawyer sloth? And maybe the others match up with virtues instead. See, we could do this all night. This theory has legs.

WORST THEORY ABOUT THE SHOW

"It's Purgatory!" Ugh, no, that's boring and dull and been done before. No, it's not Purgatory.

I guarantee you the writers have no frigging clue how this thing will end, nor do they know how to answer most of these questions. The story's gotten so big that I've forgotten most of it, like Eko's childhood flashback and the whole mystery surrounding the numbers. I just assume that anything that has a number attached to it on the show will be one of THE numbers, and don't think much about it anymore.

They've left so many threads untied that it's tough to focus on any one thing. They really do need to start tying things up and bringing more focus into the show. Right now it's a giant hodgepodge of mystery.

ETA: "A recap of previous episodes focusing on the character's personality traits and beliefs (particularly Locke's and Michael's), and on the effect of the power of love on Hurley and Libby, and Sun and Jin. The hour also explores the romantic triangle involving Kate, Jack and Sawyer. Peter Coyote narrates."

It was great, but they just can't stop piling on more and more mystery, while answering few questions.

We now know how the plane crashed (were we wondering in the first place?), and that the button must be pushed! Well, not so much anymore.

BUT:

Huge "Hurley" screeching bird? :dunno:

Huge 4-toed busted statue? :dunno:

The first thing I thought of when I saw the giant statue foot was the Collosus of Rhodes:

http://ce.eng.usf.edu/pharos/wonders/Gallery/colossus_color.jpg

which is one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. After digging around this morning, what Jin, Sun, and Sayid saw does seem consistent with the Collosus of Rhodes story:

The construction of the Colossus took 12 years and was finished in 282 BC. For years, the statue stood at the harbor entrance, until a strong earthquake hit Rhodes about 226 BC. The city was badly damaged, and the Colossus was broken at its weakest point -- the knee. The Rhodians received an immediate offer from Ptolemy III Eurgetes of Egypt to cover all restoration costs for the toppled monument. However, an oracle was consulted and forbade the re-erection. Ptolemy's offer was declined.

For almost a millennium, the statue lay broken in ruins. In AD 654, the Arabs invaded Rhodes. They disassembled the remains of the broken Colossus and sold them to a Jew from Syria. It is said that the fragments had to be transported to Syria on the backs of 900 camels.

Sounds like the remains could've been taken anywhere, so it may be the Colossus. However, I can't explain the 4 toes.

I agree that it was very good. As much as I'd like to be mad about giving more mystery, they answered some questions, which makes me happy. I can't expect them to show all their cards unless it will be ending soon, which it clearly will not.

Hmm, thinking about it, they brought resolution to MOST of the plot lines that had existed, while leaving the huge supernatural question out there... a good season finale (I hate it when SF's are just "to be continued..." episodes, I want it to have resolution, but still pique the interest).

Resolution:
--Why/How the plane crashed
--Numbers DO have to be pressed
--Henry IS the leader of the others
--There's something special about Walt (Walt/Michael resolution as well)
--The camp/costumes were indeed fake
--TONS of resolution from stuff from the first season hatch referrences (the light, how Desmond got there, etc.)
--terradactyl (I assume it's related to the black smoke/polar bear/horse)

Old questions still there:
--What's with all the supernatural stuff (the numbers are bad luck, everyone's connected, horse/polar bear stuff)
--What EXACTLY are the Other's doing? If they're just scientists doing the experiments, they would have started pressing the button or properly trained people doing it... there's something else there.

And yeah, there are TONS of new questions (those guys at the end opened a whole new plot line).

Did Eko really die? He was one of my favorite characters... Him AND Locke. Why did Locke have to be such an idiot?! Desmond clearly showed him that it was real.

The new guys are not that complicated. Desmond's true love is searching for him. She has a lot of money. We will find out that she learned that Desmond disappeared in a severe electrical storm, probably caused by a shift in magnetic fields. She has hired a team of scientists to find him. The new guys are part of the science team. Desmond's true love will be the ultimate end of the show...3 years down the line.

Eko and Locke are certainly alive. I'm not even sure that Desmond is dead.

Why/How the plane crashed was never much of a mystery to me.

The necessity of pressing of the numbers I guess was sort of an intriguing mystery.

I never had an inkling that Henry was the leader of the Others, nor did I care. Also, he may be just the leader of this small band of Others, and there is a larger faction. Remember him telling AL (or whoever) in the lockdown that "He'd" kill him, indicating he has a boss.

We already knew there was something special about Walt.

We already knew the costumes were fake.

The light wasn't really a mystery, either. We already knew that the light came from Desmond. How Desmond got there was never a big mystery, at least to me.

It wasn't a pterodactyl - it was a giant parrot (I TiVo'd it). Hence the ability to say Hurley's name.

It was a great episode, but I didn't really think it answered much of anything, other than what the button was for. Which was to displace the electromagnetic energy. However, we still don't know if it was some big experiment - maybe the button-pushers were supposed to let it count down to zero at some point, and they would be observed to see when that would point would come.

I don't understand why they did not use the failsafe key earlier. Also, how is the lack of magnetic energy going to impact the island. My guess is that Locke will lose his ability to walk and the woman with cancer will get sick again.

Also, I would expect Aaron to play a bigger role next year. And, I don't think Michael and Walt are gone.

As I said above, I'm not sure that it did kill Desmond. I think that Desmond assumed that he would be killed by using the key. He assumed that using the key would result in a detonation of some sort. I'm not sure if that was the case.

kraziness

The insinuation was that turning the key would blow it up. Desmond told Locke he'd better get out of there. Also, the quarantine door went flying :dunno: I assumed explosion.

I know that the 2  things were already known, but they really pushed that bit... I guess that opens more questions, but it was just nice to see that they hadn't just let it go (like some other plot lines), that it's still there.

I know that the source of the light wasn't a mystery, but it was cool to see what was going on at the time. At first it seemed like a big confirmation thing to Locke. Then it might have just been Desmond going to the bathroom... now we know that there was something going on. Desmond was thinking of suicide, he heard Locke banging and turned the light on (for whatever reason)... there's a connection there, Desmond said as much.

Here's my 2 cents -

Not to be a pretentious wanker (), but I guessed the reason for the plane crash a long time ago. That wasn't that big of a revelation. So what? The story is what counts. And Desmond's story was damn good in that it filled him out and filled in some of the Dharma mystery.

Also, a very important aspect of the island was revealed:

1. Desmond says "we're in a bloody snowglobe."
2. Henry says to Michael "you'll never be able to find your way back here anyway."
3. A women willingly to spend millions to find the island can't. Before she sent a couple Rooskies to the artic (magnetic polar region) to search for elctromagnetic surges, she must have scoured the Pacific in the area Desmond was last heard from, and found nothing.

Which means, what? That the "peculiar geographic magnetic properties" (Calvin's words - also backed up by what the Aussie healer told Rose) on that island are masking it in some way. Compass navigation is definitely fucked, but I get the feeling it could be more than that. The place is practically invisible to the outside world - unless you know how to find it, like Dharma does (the food drop). So this is what Penny is reduced to searching for - electromagnetic surges in the Pacific.

Also - there's no freaking way Michael and Walt are leaving. The one CONSTANT about the Others is that they lie, they always lie. Michael is fucked.

ALSO!@# - Did anyone catch the fake Hansco commerical they slipped into the ads? I'm surprised no one said anything about it. This is the second week they've done this. If you watch the commericals - TK if you still have it on TIVO, go back and check it out - there's a Hansco commerical in there. Hansco is the company in charge of the Dharma project. It's a gag by the writers, telling us they've heard all the theories and this one is hilarious. Whenever cast members have been asked this on talk show appearances, they laugh their asses off. I honestly think the writers are throwing the conspiracy theorists a bone for fun, because it keeps us talking but also because they think it's ridiculous.

I'm going to guess that Desmond's disappearance coincided with a magnetic charge.

Like someone else said, the storm that shipwrecked Desmond probably had some peculiar electromagnetic properties to it, and she's working on a last ditch hope that those properties might be connected to his disappearance.

In the hatch last night, they showed the washer and dryer, the new ones from Maytag, came out maybe a few years ago. How did they get into the hatch?:wigglypea:

Really? I missed that. There's alot I miss on the show, usually watch it tired and drinking, which doesn't help.

In one of the flashbacks... or maybe it was on the recap show at 8. Either way, they were doing laundry. Something along the lines of:

Libby: Isn't it wierd that everything in here looks so old, but the W&D is new?
Hurley: I don't care, as long as it washes my clothes
Libby: (something about how he's so picky)

Apparently it was in the recap... it was in the "Fire+Water" episode when they're doing laundry, in the infamous "do I know you"scene when Hurley first starts "spittin game".

On (or about) May 19, 2006 letters started flashing across the picture of Peter Thompson. These letters spell out survivor guilt. If you enter the words into the new text box under Peter's picture on his bio page, you can view three small clips about his lawsuit expertise - he's been involved in suits where nuclear, oil and tobacco giants won and caused all sorts of grief for the little guy. Ironic, considering that Peter himself was left with cancer after a lifetime of smoking. There are also words superimposed on these movies, that appear to say "Don't believe his lies". As with the other passwords, case doesn't seem to matter, neither does the space between the words.

When you try to sign up for the newsletter, the site gets all fuxored.

Apparently this wasn't the case as of last week:

Go to The Hanso Foundation website at www.thehansofoundation.org. Watch the intro if you like, then go to the main menu, and from there, sign up for the newsletter. Enter a user name. It does not matter what user name you use, but you should remember what name you use, or you will have to do this again later. When you enter a name, Persephone (rememeber her?) breaks in and asks if you can read this. If you type "no", you are kicked out. Don't type "no". Type yes. You are then asked for the password. Type breaking strain.

it does not seem to matter if you use the appropriate case, or even if you include a space in the middle or not. Once you do this, you will receive a series of "login" messages from Persephone. At this point you are "logged in" to the site. Until you do this, most of the rest of the site is inactive. Therefore, do this first. If something else isn't working, try this step, then try that step again, and it will likely work for you. Once you have signed in, you can sign back in using the same name and be welcomed back, along with (presumably) given any new messages. At this writing (as of May 18, 2006), there have been no new messages.

The insinuation was that turning the key would blow it up. Desmond told Locke he'd better get out of there. Also, the quarantine door went flying :dunno: I assumed explosion.

Maybe the door went flying do to a reversal of magnetic field. :detective:

At first I thought it was wreckage from another plane, but it was clearly the hatch door, either sent there from an explosion or from the magenetic charge thingy.

Okay, why the explosion talk? Why is it so hard to believe that the door got shot into the sky due to the reversal of the magnetic field, as nobody said?

Well, I thought that Desmond and the other guy both thought that it made a big explosion. Since we really don't know what happened over there, I don't feel comfortable saying that it wasn't or that it was. You (and nobody) are probably right that it was just the magnetic field, but it's not like they showed what happened.
