View Full Version : Lessons you learned from this past year's FF season...

I had wanted to do this at the end of FF season when things were fresh in my mind, but I forgot, eh well. Anyways, figured it'd be a good way to pass some of the offseason.

1. Stud WRs and flash in the pan RBs will get guys going in the first few weeks (and scared me into almost making a few bad trades), but the stud consistant RBs will pull you through the full season/championship (the Cadillac/Moss owner jumped out to 3-0 before they finished the season by only winning 2 more games all year) while the consistancy of Edge pulled me through, then carried me.

2. I still don't know how to know when to "cut bait" on a guy (Jamal Lewis, Julius Jones), when to sell high (Lamont Jordan before midseason) and when to keep giving him a shot until he comes around. I got pretty lucky this season (my trade- giving up LJ for Jamal before Priest's injury was vetoed, traded Lamont before he developed his fear of the endzone, etc.) but it was all luck, I stuck with Julius the whole season :dunno: Also, I was smart to trade Stephen Davis, but I never would have trusted Tom Jones and he lasted the whole season!

3. In an 8 team league, don't be surprised when guys are available a round or two after you slotted them, don't let it throw your strategy off. Also, don't expect to be able to trade, everyone will have star studded teams and they won't want to part with anyone worth anything.

Randy Moss + always start your stud rule = missed playoffs :wigglypea:

"Fuck it, I'll take TO" is not a wise decision.

Choosing to trade Lamont Jordan for TO instead of Marv Harrison was not a wise decision.

Don't overlook historically inconsistent vet receivers in promising situations (Galloway, Glenn), especially when they are healthy.

Also, make sure you trade TO for Chad Johnson the week before he gets suspended from the team.

I had an incredible year of fantasy football in 2005, so I guess the only lesson I learned is that I'm really awesome.

Step 1) Get Shaun Alexander, surround him with stud WR's and then get serviceable running backs to complement him. Later, after you have too many good WR's to know what to do with, package one of your performing running backs with one of your overperforming or 'name' WR's for a stud RB from a team that is injured and about to miss the playoffs.

Step 2) Win Super Bowl

I did this, and lost to a team in the playoffs that had nothing but Bengals on the week that they exploded for like 40+ points.:screams:

Ditto. Lost in the first round with Alexander, McGahee, S. Smith, C. Johnson, and S. Moss.

I was nonplussed. :disappointed:

Don't overthink this shit. It's not focking rocket science. Go after the people I want, even if it seems a little early to everyone else.

The Alexander owner (in both leagues) beat me in the championship (I had LJ)... my experience this year is that this game is STILL run by RBs, and if you can get one of the studs, they will carry you past all the flash in the pan Steve Smith, Peyton Manning, Anonio Gates type guys at other positions.

if everyone thinks a rb is a lock to have a breakout year (mcgahee), avoid him at all costs. :hyper:

that's just crappy luck. You had the team to win it all, but bad luck smacked you upside yo head.

Do NOT take a QB in Rd. 1 (or 2 or 3 for that matter... ). I don't care if its Peyton Manning, Culpepper, McNabb, Kurt Warner, Randall Cunningham, or the next record breaking QB... they just aren't worth it.
