I saw this for the first time last night. If you haven't, basically it's a documentary about the city of Flint, Michigan after GM closed plants there and moved jobs to Mexico. It was pretty interesting, but more depressing than anything else. Moore did a good job in showing the haves and the have-nots in the city at that time. There was no middle class after GM closed its plants - only the ultra-rich or the dirt poor lived there in the late 80's.

Anywho my wife and 2 year-old daughter plopped down on the couch next to me just when Moore was interviewing a former plant-worker who was now trying to make ends meet by selling rabbits either for pets or for meat. Moore asked the woman how she slaughtered the rabbits for meat, and the next thing I knew, she was tying up a rabbit feet first, and ripping the skin off the poor bastard.

My daughter:  "NOOOO!!@#" :sadbanana:

My wife: "TURN IT TURNITTURNITTUUUUUURNIT!!!@#" :madani:

Me: :screams: "I'M TRYING TO!! WHY ISN'T THIS DAMN THING WORKING??!@?" :screams:

I was mashing buttons to no avail. The damn remote was set on TV instead of Satellite. :weary:

My daughter just laid there for awhile, then she started playing as if nothing happened. But she did sleep with her stuffed bunny last night.

FADDA OF THE YE-AH!! :dopey:

My grandfather raised animals for meat since he lived out in the sticks. I got to enjoy rabbit pipe-to-the-head skinning times, firsthand!#@ I had the duty of carrying buckets of guts to ye olde creekbed for the coyotes.

ALSO I got to hold turkey necks down to a log via 3 inches of rope while he goes all Kirby Puckett with the ax. :hyper:

I gotta go frow up now.

When I was a kid, I remember flipping through the channels and landing on HBO doing some kid of documentary. There was some asian dude looked like he was playing with his cats with this stick. Next thing I know he snags one by the loop at the end of the stick and starts beating it in the head. I was horrified, but couldn't change the channel. He dragged the dazed cat into a building, then proceeded the skin the cat alive, it was probably the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. He started with the eyelids, then the face till it was off. After the cat was skinned, he dumped it in boiling water or oil or something, the cat was still moving, trying to get out, slowly. Great, I'm gonna have nightmares again tonight.:screams:

wow. kids and dead rabbits (or cats) don't mix.

also, when I was a kid, the only thing I ever saw on TV that REALLY upset me was The Day After (a dramatization of the effects of a hypothetical nuclear attack on the United States. The show was one of the biggest media events of the 1980s).

I was afraid we were all gonna be blowed up.

I remember that movie. I also grew up scared that we were gonna blow up, borderline nutso on the topic. I remember as a kid hiding in the attic, trying to find the strongest part of the roof that could withstand a direct hit from a nuclear missle.:|

I remember my parents making me watch The Day After, because it was supposed to be so educational or some crap. All it did was scare the living shit out of me.

After that I was absolutely convinced I would die, soon, in a nuclear holocaust. It was just a matter of when.

yeah, there was a lot going on in the world back then.

The Day After came out in 1983.
I remember seeing the USSR/Afgahnistan invasion on the news around that time... every time they showed those surface-to-air rocket batteries, I'd ask my parents if they were nuclear missiles.

Then in 1984, Red Dawn came out. After about a year of being scared of Nuclear War, I was convinced that I could do EXACTLY what they did in Red Dawn... after all, NOBODY knew the woods arounf our houses better than my friends and I. :tk:

And it's amazing what kind of lingering psychological effect it had. During 9/11, I remember calling my father to see where he was and to arrange for everyone to meet over my parents' house... I think there were some deep seeded Red Dawnisms left in my brain. The rumors were flying that day... the White House was hit, The Sears Tower in CHI (my father was working in The Prudential building in Boston at the time). Until I actually knew the whole story, I was all geared up to Red Dawn it. :dumbjim:

Me too, I remember driving home from work after the towers collapsed, gearing up on building a bunker in the basement and how I could make homemade weapons, ala First Blood and Red Dawn. I was gonna dig a hole in the ground in front of my driveway and hide in it with my Tech 9.:hyper:
