Since there are spot-of-the-foul offensive penalties, it's possible to gain 19+ yards, and be penalized 10 back. The down repeats, and voila--it's first and inches!

I believe illegal block in the back would be an example. As the runner is held up 19+ yards forward from the line of scrimmage, but before the whistle blows, an offensive player throws a block in the back at a defender in the scrum. 10 yards from the spot of the foul, repeat the down.

We're already octo-splitting our spicy internets riches. Adding another would mean we'd have to nano-split them, and that just sounds stupid.

Each FF site's best asset is the messageboard. FFToday came closest to featuring their forum as a site feature but Mike did a piss poor job of managing it and involving the posters into the daily content.

Our intent is to feature the forum as the main site feature while supplying FF analysis. The analysis will feature solid football information packaged in a snarky, arrogant manner. Kinda like pigskinaddiction but not horribly lame and cliche. :cool:

We've got a slew of weekly columns scheduled and we'll unveil the ideas shortly.

whoisjgalt is gonna be the statistical guru aorunf here and will provide spicy stat tools and whatnot for FF use.

bonky, jonesy, TK, Wilzone, dolfan and I will be posting humorous columns and generally acting like cockbites on the message board Orgazmo will contribute actual football analysis, web design, and general ramblings. Rodney will be in charge of everything technical and will also contribute spicy writings for the masses. We'll also be asking several of you to contribute off and on through columns and board postentines.

There will be betting (FAI Bucks), premium memberships (details to follow) and a number of other features. Hopefully, we don't degenerate into a bunch of bickering nancies who never get anything off the ground...which is why we cut CMT out of the site ownership. :D

I think the quality posters here are enough of a draw so as to attract other quality posters and keep this place more entertaining than maddening. Plus, the moderation will be pretty top-notch. I think this board will be like the early days of the Geek Club, open to all, but the quality of posts/posters will make everyone step up their game.

Since the name "First and Inches" came out of my demented head, I guess I really am the only one who can attempt to explain it.

Back when we were trying to come up with a name, we wanted something unique, memorable, kind of silly and also something that the work sensors wouldn't block (which is why we don't have FF or football or anything that would get blocked for being a sports site).

I started brainstorming names that would be recognized as related to football without being a recognizable sports site. Then "first and inches" popped into my head. I felt like it covered everything we were trying to accomplish. It's memorable even if it is kind of confusing and not even very possible (except for situations like torridjoe described) and it goes along with our desire to not take ourselves so seriously. We all voted and FAI won.

We'll try to sell ads, but approach it from a standpoint so as not to annoy people with pop-ups or ugly flashing banners all over the main site. We think we have a good idea in place, it'll just take some time to develop.

This place will remain free to everyone, but there will be a premium membership opportunity, which will give these members special privileges and accesses. Still developing that as well.
