WTF is Miles Davis?

I'm ok with the rest.

Also, Blondie will be performing but without the 2 bandmembers who sued them when they were'nt invited for the last reunion.

Even though the article I read said Ozzy, I guess Black Sabbath will be inducted as well.

They will not perform but Metallica will do a tribute for them.

Weren't the Sex Pistols intentionally bad? As in, they were formed by someone as kind of a goof, since they hardly had any musical talent whatsoever?

Frankly, I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should take a few years off from inducting folks...they are running out of worthy candidates. I know that the inductions are a big money-maker for them, but I'd rather see 5 qualified bands every 3 years or so rather than 5 questionable bands every year.

Not really. I think they were formed because they wanted to live the rock-n-roll lifestyle and slam the "industry." They were not the most talented group, but they were not Depeche Mode (whose members couldn't even play instruments when they were formed).

Depeche Mode (whose members couldn't even play instruments when they were formed).

 I was not aware of that either....

I did not know that either.

Why no to skynyrd?

Why no to skynyrd?

I just don't think they accomplished enough to earn a spot in the Rock-n-Roll HOF. Even if they had lived, I think they would have had only limited success. Bands like The Allman Brothers and Little Feat made Skynyrd look like a house band. Skynyrd's music has no variety. Power chords and wailing guitars, all in the same key.

Sex Pistols: All flash, no substance. :| Is this a joke?

Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath: About time.

Blondie: Did she do something groundbreaking? :dunno:

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Were they anything more than an amped up, less talented Allman Brother's Band without the soul?

Miles Davis: Greatness, but I thought it was the Rock & Roll HOF?

Apparantly you missed the before-its-time historic song called RAPTURE!

Also, Debbie Harry went to Hawthorne High School -- the town where I now live.:hyper:

I believe they got in on the AC/DC Rule.

Standing the test of time? Having one of the best albums ever? Netiher of those seem to apply.

Agreed. Also, Miles Davis is great, but not really in the Rock'n'Roll genre

Skynyrd was a far better band than either the Allmans or Little Feat, IMO. The latter two were latecomers to putting blues into rock, and then did it roughly the same way every time. Skynyrd created their own sound, and made three guitars work like no one had before. And van Zandt wrote much better and more wide ranging lyrics than the Allmans (you can't even put Little Feat in the same zip code...Dixie Chicken? WTF is that?)

I used to be a huge Allman bros. fan. Then I saw them in concert. It was so disappointing. It was my birthday. I had third row seats.
They did one of my all time favorite songs- Melissa-crossroads seem to come and go...
Greg Allman was so drunk he could hardly play or sing.
It was pathetically sad.
Buzzkill.

I guess I don't understand the rock hall of fame. Do you HAVE to be groundbreaking? Being played, being enjoyed, maybe being an influence on new bands decades after they hit the scene isn't enough?

There's no rhyme or reason to it. That NON-Rock Artists like Miles Davis get into the HOF is enough to question what the fock they are doing. It's like having an Awards show for Movies, and then giving an award to a TV Show. Does it make any sense?

The Depeche Mode info was news to me as well. They couldn't play instruments? wow. I'd like to read/hear more on that. They're basically Europe's Milli Vanilli?

As for Ozzy/Black Sabbath? They ARE the epitomy of Rock music and deserve to be in the HOF.

Absolutely. Black Sabbath is so much deserving that they should of been one of the first to get in, IMO.
