I say we use at least the SEC due to the number of teams with draftable players at both offensive and defensive positions. Then add one more conference to the pool. What does everyone think?

I agree. We will definitely want to start small.

Why not use the SEC and have each user add a team to the pool. I like that approach.

Or if we only have like 5 or 6 teams we could use the SEC plus each owner could add two teams and that would give us either 20 or 22 to draft from which would be a decent pool.

It would be best for each team to be responsible for scoring their lineup each week.

How many weeks do we want to make this league? If we can get an even number of teams do we want to do head-to-head?

I'm also going to propose that we try really hard to conclude this draft over the course of just a few days.

I could probably do it over a week say? If we did 3 rounds a day we could get it done in a week easy.

I'm up for that. Considering its just 6 teams it should move pretty quickly.

Something that may be an issue is free agency. I'd propose that free agency doesn't start until week 2 so that we can get a handle of when stats will be posted at espn. Otherwise I have no idea how we will research for free agency.

This is also going to be a good tester for tight ends and flex offensive positions in the other college league. I'm done with offensive research and about 75% done with defensive research. From what I can gather we have a fairly complex pool that we have selected.

So is that good or bad? :headscratch: :D

Depends on how good you are ;-)

I have no freaking clue how good I am at NCAA IDP! :D

Here is my proposal for next year and beyond.
We expand to 8 teams next year so that we have a roster for a new owner to take over if someone leaves rather than them starting from scratch.
We use this format for the league pool
All SEC teams (12)
The top two ranked teams for the Big 10, Pac 12, ACC, Big 12-2, MWC, Big East (12)
The top ranked teams for the WAC, Conf USA, Sun Belt (3)
This will give us 27 teams annually in our pool but 15 can completely turn over from year to year. Part of the strategy to drafting players for keeper potential would be in the non SEC conference you would need to weigh whether or not the player's team is likely to remain an elite level team or if there is some uncertainty there. Texas and Oklahoma are two good examples because what if you thought last year that Texas would have a difficult time breaking in some new starters you may not draft them as much for keeper potential as you would Oklahoma as there seemed to be more consistency in place. I think this could work.

Interesting...
My first question concerns adding 2 owmers but only increasing the pool of teams by 3. I wonder if we need to let this year play out to see how deep the talent pool is. This year, we have 6 owners and 24 NCAA teams which higher math suggests thats 4 NCAA teams for every one fantasy team. Plus, we hand-picked the extra 12 so in theory, we ensured a deeper pool. If we use rankings, it might produce teams that are good on the field but not necessarily have many good fantasy players.
Just my 2 cents.... :D

Some more food for thought..
We should provide some way for the independents to be involved in the years where they deserve to be. :hyper:
I'd hate to say we include ND and/or BYU every single year but there will be some years where we may want one or both. Maybe we say that if any independent is ranked in the top 25 they are added on as extra team(s)?
BTW....does BYU plan to stay independent?
It would be awesome for some of you to speak up, this is actually a rare chance to help build something unique and exciting! I appreciate Eric for opening it up for discussion.

Thanks for the kind words and I would also like to see more input from the league.
After some more deep thought on these issues I'd say that a team's total offense yardage average should be the measurement that we use for determinining what teams outside of the SEC make the pool. What say ye?
I agree on independents being included. Its possible that more could join the ranks of indies and I think BYU's move is permanent.

A counterpoint against using the prior year's numbers would be a team like Rice that went from a fantasy gold mine to a land mine. Entries based on projections might be a better way to go. If an independent team is bringing back the players that project well then we can include them regardless of ranking.

The counterpoint to the Rice example is that they still have productive IDP players which would offer some balance to our pool.

Using the SEC as the base could get a whole lot more interesting with the addition of Texas A&M and whoever the 14th team is that the SEC brings in.
